1. If you were in hiding, how would you feel about you all accepting an 8th person into the attic?

Summary
Pages 1-40 summary
The book starts with Anne being 13 and she starts out by discussing her family in her diary, she started keeping a diary to express herself and she called her diary Kitty. In writing to her diary Anne wrote about the Jews and how they began to suffer because of the Germans in 1940 with the anti-jewish decrees and jews had to wear a yellow star to show that they were Jews. When Annes father discussed going into hiding to keep from being takin by the Germans they go sooner than planned to the secret annexe which if Annes father's place of employment. They go into hiding with another family the Van Daan's which at times is overwhelming for everyone because they can't go anywhere and for most of the day they have to be quite so they are not heard. By October they began to hear more about the concentration camps and how the Jews were being taken by the dozens to suffer a horrible fate, Anne and her family are thankful to be alive and hiding from a such a fate.

Anne's Vocabulary (Pages 1-40)
Page 5. ardent (adjective)
The word ardent in the context of the story means to express intense, fierce feelings. I chose this word because it reminds me of the Spanish word ardiente, which means burning.
Page 6. florin (noun)
The word florin in the context of the story is money. I chose this word simply because it is currency.
Page 8. tram (noun)
The word tram in the context of the story is a car (street car). I chose this word because I wanted to know what Anne meant.
Page 33. stifle (verb)
The word stifle in the context of the story means to suppress or withhold. In this case Anne did not know what to do to be able to stifle her rage. I chose this word because to me this word means to hide something.
Page 36. prude (noun)
The word prude in the context of the story means a knowledgeable person. I chose this word simply on the basis of pronunciation. It sounds cool. I like it. Anne is so not a prude just like she stated it so.

Why do you think Anne's dad was so upset about her being home late?
How was the restrictions and discrimination of the Jews comparable to events in America?
If you had to go into hiding with very short notice as Anne and her family did, what would you take?
What would you be thinking as your walking into hiding, not knowing what the end result will be?
Why do you think Annes having a hard time getting along with her mother and sister?
It seems to me that Anne is going thru adolescents, and has hormonal issues. Her sister seems like she stuck up or just not toe nice to Anne. Peter also adds to the problems with the young people in the attic. Too many young adults will difinetly lead to problems especially in such a stressful situation. I can relate to stressful situations when living with people. It is hard and takes a lot of patience.
