  1. 1) If I lived during the Holocaust and there was room in my house for extra guests, I think I would take in a small family. They of course would need to know that they have to be extremely quiet and know that it will most definitely not be living a normal life. In other words, they will be like prisoners living with basic essentials.

    2) I really loved the poem Pim wrote for Anne because through the poem Pim sends a message to her about life. He tells her that she is loved and in such a place she is the one that brings them fresh air, she makes them smile especially because she's never bored. He also tells her about the quarrels between Mrs. Van Daan life rule is that adults (elders) are always better. In other words adults are always right so don't waste her time trying to change their views. I even think Anne really loved the poem so much that it made her cry and she keeps it in a dear place.

    3) I think Dussel was being selfish about Anne's request. He is at the table every day at all hours and Anne was only requesting to be at the table two days a week from 4:00pm to 5:30pm. His response was no because she does not take her work seriously. Whether her work was serious or not I believe he should have said yes. He only agreed once Pim had a talk with him.

) I would not say Anne is depressed instead I believe she is finally taking the time to analyze her situation and her feels. She is now going through puberty and her emotions are all over the place. She thinks about everyone in the Annex with her and everyone outside that is not as lucky as her to be where she is at.

    5) Like I mentioned previously, Anne feels guilty about living her poor cat behind. She feels guilty about being safe and not her friends from school. She feels sorry for her grandmother. She is going through a hard time and all she can think about is guilt.

  2. 1) If you lived during the Holocaust would you have taken in refugees into your home?
If I lived during the Holocaust I probably would take in close friends or relatives if they needed to hide. Although it would put me and my daughter at risk, saying no would be to difficult.
    2) What did you think about the poem that Annes dad wrote for her?
I really like the poem that Anne's dad wrote for her birthday. It was cute and personal. Im sure it made her happy at a time when nothing else really does.
    3) How did you feel about Dussels reaction to Anne's request for more desk time?
I felt that Dussel is very rude and ungrateful. These people took him in, Anne even gave up some of her room to him. His refusal to share the desk with Anne is selfish.
    4) Why do you think Anne's depression has gotten so bad recently?
The war has gotten very bad right now. Thier future is so uncertain. They have had very little contact with the outside world, including people and nature. All these things have led to Anne becoming very depressed.
    5) Why do you think Anne has so much guilt?
Anne and her family keep hearing horrible news about the war and what has become of thier friends and family. This is causing her to feel very guilty, since even though her conditions are difficult, they dont compare to what the other endured.

  3. 1) If you lived during the Holocaust would you have taken in refugees into your home?
i would have taken refugees into my home but i would explain to them the risks and dangers i would be taking to help keep them safe. i would talk with them and let them be aware that i am really passionate about everyone being allowed to live their lives according to their own choosing and that i have hope further along the road there will be changes made to correct the wrong doings of the nazis. we would have to work as a team to survive and to keep the secret of refugees being housed.
    2) What did you think about the poem that Annes dad wrote for her?
i enjoyed the poem Annes dad made for her. he took into consideration that Anne has a passion for writing and uses writing as a form of expression. The dad wanted to make it apparent to Anne that he was aware of the emotions she was going through.
    3) How did you feel about Dussels reaction to Anne's request for more desk time?
Dussel was being self centered and was not taking into consideration that although Anne's work was not written for publishment; it was being written as form of expression and to Anne it was serious work. As refugees there are many restrictions being placed upon Anne and her family; when Anne writes she is able to free herself from boundaries and express and live through her journal entries.
    4) Why do you think Anne's depression has gotten so bad recently?
through Anne and her family being isolated into their small sanctuary also known as their living grounds they are being forced to a limited amount of contact with others. there are many dangers outside of their basement that are life threatening and there are many soldiers who are ready to murder at a times notice. with the months passing there is slim hope that there will be any aid from countries.

  4. 1) If you lived during the Holocaust would you have taken in refugees into your home? Yes, if I knew my families safety was not at risk because here are these Jews being killed off by the hundreds and millions all because of their race and Hitler saw them as vermon.
    2) What did you think about the poem that Annes dad wrote for her? Annes father expresses his feelings to Anne in the poem that even though she is the youngest in the house she is growing up but that she need to remember they only want what is best for her because they are older, he tells Anne that everyone has faults and its easier to pick on others than to look at their own faults. Annes father wants her to know that he understands how she might feel and that she is still loved by him and her mother.
    3) How did you feel about Dussels reaction to Anne's request for more desk time? Dussel overreacted and he needed to realize that Anne has to share a room with him and where they live altogether can be frustrating with the lack of space.
    4) Why do you think Anne's depression has gotten so bad recently? I don't know that her depression got worse it was more that they have always been living in fear whether or not they were going to be discoverd and Anne to me in the end found herself and realized she was different from other girls and she found love, she knew who she wanted to be but always knew she might not get a chance to be that person.
    5) Why do you think Anne has so much guilt? Anne just wanted her family to understand her and it seemed immpossible, I think she felt bad because she did not see things like her mother and sister and she related more to her father but she comes to realize that she doesn't even know her father because he tells her nothing. The guilt Anne feels is not being able to open up to her family because she is different and she knows that her parents love her and have given her a good life but Anne was adventurious and wanted to be so much more.
